In Glasgow, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is one of Scotland’s most popular attractions housing the famous Christ of St John of the Cross by Salvador Dali as well as a collection of European art, and a fine display of armour and weaponry. Nearby, the Hunterian Museum is Scotland’s oldest and has been recently refurbished. Set against the beautiful woodland backdrop of Pollok Country Park, The Burrell Collection houses a unique collection of over 8,000 objects.
The Riverside Museum is the newest addition in Glasgow, home to the transport museum, while the Lighthouse in the city centre celebrates Glasgow’s relationship with revolutionary architecture. As you explore, you will also come across many smaller independent and contemporary galleries including the CCA, Tramway and Trongate 103.
Discover new galleries and fascinating objects in Edinburgh’s recently refurbished National Museum of Scotland or visit The National Portrait Gallery which will reopen in November. In Perth, the Fergusson Gallery is devoted to the life and work of Scottish Colourist, John Duncan Fergusson. In Stirling, you can view the oldest football in the world at The Smith Art Gallery which also boasts a number of special collections. To the south in Ayrshire, you’ll find the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum where you’ll discover all about the life of Scotland’s national poet and have the opportunity to visit the historic landmarks where he set his greatest work.
