Things you must do in the Highlands and Moray
See Eilean Donan Castle
An icon of Scotland, and a backdrop to some famous movies, Eilean Donan lies on the road to Skye.
Experience the atmosphere of Glencoe
An infamous clan massacre and an atmospheric mountainous glen – plus a good visitor centre which tells the whole story. Find out why the Macdonalds don’t like the Campbells!
See the Cuillins of Skye
Another photographic ‘must-have’. Essential mountain panoramas. Some say the view of the Cuillins from Elgol is the finest landscape setting in the UK. Boat trips across Loch Scavaig if you want a closer look.
Watch the sunset at Ardnamurchan Point
Ardnamurchan, with its lighthouse (which has an interesting visitor centre) is the most westerly point in the Scottish mainland. Superb island views out to the west and it’s fun to get there, with a real sense of somewhere special and off-the-beaten-track. One for adventurers.
Sample a few on the Malt Whisky Trail
The best way of taking in the lovely valley of the River Spey is to follow signs to the distilleries of the Malt Whisky Trail. Light, rounded, subtle – you’ll soon discover your favourite.
