Dumfries and Galloway

From streams to summits and forests to shores, the landscape in Dumfries & Galloway is so striking that you can feel its influence across the history, culture and everyday life. Discover a region that is perfect for outdoor activities, has inspired various artists and writers and is an ideal haven for the rarest of wildlife species.

The region sits in the south west corner of Scotland, stretching from the Scottish Borders to the Irish Sea, making it easy to reach from all directions. Soak up the tranquility of a woodland walk through vast forests, wander along 200 miles of coastline beside the Solway Firth, or simply meander through the quaint streets of the region’s towns and villages.

Explore the Galloway Forest Park - 300 square miles of lush green forest, heather-clad hills and tranquil valleys, home to an amazing variety of wildlife. Stargaze at night with the naked eye and witness over 7,000 stars at the first Dark Sky Park in the UK and one of only two in Europe.

The park is also home to a wide range of fantastic mountain biking areas with trails and tracks for both seasoned cyclists and beginners. Sailing, waterskiing and  wakeboarding are available on the water and  back on dry land golfers can enjoy over 30 golf courses that offer challenges for all levels of ability.

For some culture, visit the home, farm and favorite inn of Scotland’s National Bard, Robert Burns, whose most memorable work was written here.
